Former QLD Treasurer and Sports Minister Terry Mackenroth has been appointed as the first independent director of the Queensland Rugby League.

Also known in League circles as the ‘Minister for the Broncos’, Mackenroth is remembered for pressing for the redevelopment of Lang Park.

“I have no doubt that in future years Terry’s appointment will be seen as a step of major significance,” QRL Managing Director Ross Livermore said.

The appointment of Mackenroth follows an ongoing restructure of QRL operations.

“I’ve always had a great interest in rugby league and am honored to have been considered for this role,” the number-one ticket holder for the East Tigers said.

“There are some wonderful developments happening with Queensland Rugby League at present; a State of Origin defence and looming celebrations for the QRL Centenary.

“At the same time though there are challenges ahead and I look forward to being involved with helping the game grow and prosper.”
