Former Sharks coach Stuart Raper will be back in the coaches corner this season after signing on with the Gymea Gorillas.

For Raper, the role is a chance to enjoy coaching again after he was terminated from Cronulla with a year-left on his contract at the end of 2006.

The former Wigan mentor will be an assistant coach for the Gorillas under-14s team which his son Jake is a member of.

The Gorillas - who finished fourth in the Cronulla-Sutherland District Rugby Football League last year - were formed in 1952 and list some impressive former players including David Hatch.

Hatch was a non-playing reserve for the Sharks in the historic Grand Final replay of 1978 between Cronulla and Manly.

Raper's presence, experience and knowledge may be what the Gorillas need to get out of the mist and into the Grand Final.
