Footy Fans looking for a great day out in the cold will be lining up to see 6 fantastic games of rugby league this weekend in round 18 of the Jim Beam Cup.

The action commences on Friday night at the Crest Stadium when team 4 (Belrose) faces off against team 5 (Sydney Bulls) to regain a spot inside the top three.

Sydney Bulls along with Wentworthville, Erina and Shellharbour all had a bye last weekend, so it will be interesting to see if the rest was just what the reigning premiers needed this close to the finals.

Belrose – who lost their last game on the road against Cabramatta in round 15 – returned to the winners circle last weekend with a 28-20 win over the luckless Seven Hill demons.

Seven Hills to their credit were only behind 12-4 at half-time before the Eagles bounced back immediately in the second forty by scoring back to back tries to hand themselves a 20-point lead.

Known for capitulating at this point in the game, the Demons instead rolled up their sleeves and fought back via a try to Luke Ackroyd in the 68th minute.

In a true battle of the fullbacks, David Pangai (Belrose) responded by scoring the home side’s final four-pointer of the afternoon.

Two quick tries to the Demon’s in the final five minutes disallowed Belrose coach Peter Camroux from breathing easy. However it was too little too late for the visitors.

Two representative games were also played last weekend in the 2007 ARL ‘Quad’ Series. The Jim Beam Cup defeated Emerging States 54-8 while also fending off CRL Country 29-16.
