NSW State Cup minor premiers North Sydney will be remembered for being eliminated from this year’s final series without a win after being crushed 36-8 by Western Suburbs last Sunday.
The words of Coach Wayne Lambkin could not hide the reality of the way his side bowed out after on the most successful regular season’s on record.
“To those players that are moving on thank you for your effort and good luck. To those staying on let’s look to completing our sets of six and getting our kicks in.
“I won’t lie to you I did not feel you were ever in the game. But you’ve had a good year, be proud of that”.
Norths only two tries came in the first and second halves, scored by Shaune Corrigan and Greg Nichols respectively.
Wests created a dominated 20-4 lead at half-time off the back of four tries to Peni Tagive, Trent Cutler, Shannon Gallant and Nick Taylor.
After the break, the score blew out to 26-4 when Cutler sliced through the defence to score beneath the uprights. Gallant then converted to give the Magpies a comfortable lead.
Magpies Captain Nathan Waters then threw in some hard running to set up Tagive’s second try.
Conceding only one try in the second term, the sixth placed fibros finally bear hugged Norths out of the finals with a late try to Nick Taylor.
Western Suburbs now play Newtown Jets at Campbelltown Stadium on Sunday, September 28, at noon with the winner moving into the grand final. They play the winner of the Wentworthville and Manly Sea Eagles clash.. - Read More, Here
