It was a funny old game at Brookvale on Saturday night.

Manly scored the first two tries and controlled the tempo of the game in the first half, a very difficult goal to achieve against a Melbourne side with a huge pool of talent.

Normally the Sea Eagles are slow-starters when it comes to scoring points. That might explain why they’ve been behind at half-time 5 times this season.

The opposite can be said for the Storm. They scored fast in all 9 games they’ve won this season (averaging 13.7 points in the first half).

However in both games they’ve lost this year to the Wests Tigers and Manly, they have been behind on the scoreboard at half-time.

It seems the Storm don’t like catch-up football. It prompts some of their stars into playing a ‘dumb’ brand of football as was acknowledged by coach Craig Bellamy after Saturday’s game.

Here’s what both coaches had to say.
