South Sydney’s march towards their first premiership in 36-years was set-back on Monday after Nathan Merritt was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Merritt – who is the club’s most prolific try scorer this season (17) - received the bad news from South Sydney Director of Athletic Performance Errol Alcott this morning.

Scans on Merritt’s left knee revealed lateral ligament tear and a torn hamstring tendon off the bone.

The man – who replaced David Peachey in the number 1 jersey mid-season – will go under the knife soon and be out for at least four-months.

“It is very disappointing for Nathan. I know he was really looking forward to hopefully playing in the semi-finals for South Sydney, “ Coach Jason Taylor said.

“We all really feel for him. But even if he will be on the sideline over the coming weeks he is still an important part of the team,” Taylor said. - Read More, Here
