Newcastle will be looking to overtake competition front runners Parramatta in round 8 of the NSWRL Premier League. They're not alone, writes JOSH KING.

Looking for a win off the back of a bye is a challenge for most rugby league teams in all grades these days and the Eels of course will have their hands full when they battle the team they defeated in last year's grand final, the Newtown Jets.

A loss by the blue and gold would provide an opportunity for Newcastle or the Bulldogs to leap frog over them on for and against points.

Watch for the Knights and the Dogs attempt to stamp their authority at Telstra Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Balmain, Cronulla, Canberra and Manly have the opportunity to bounce back into the top eight should they win their fixtures while the pressure will be on Auckland and St George to win at home or slide down the ladder.

These are your Premier League teams heading into round 8.
