Castleford ditched the title of one hit wonders in Super League XIII after sneaking away with a 30-24 win over St Helens in round 10.

Searching for win number 2 in 2008, for the Tigers it had been a long time between drinks considering their first win of the season was back in round 5 against reigning champions Leeds Rhinos.

St Helens kept the game under control in the first half and lead 16-10 at the break care of tries to Maurie Fa'asavalu and Ade Gardner.

However it was a transformed home side that return to the field in the second-half with Tigers loose-forward Joe Westerman, 18, setting up a try for Richard Owen.

Saints did hit back as was expected via a Stephen Tyrer touchdown but that would be the last time Daniel Anderson’s men would be allowed a drink from the well.

Dominating possession against the visitors in the final-quarter, Castleford overturned the six-point deficit to level the scoreboard.

Luke Dorn took out the match-winning honours when he dived on an error from Saints fullback Paul Wellens to seal the end of a horrific losing streak for the competition bottom dwellers.

Westerman then added the extras to declare St Helens finished…..for round 10.

"We've played 40 minutes and that was about it,” Saints coach Daniel Anderson told the media afterwards.

"We need to wake up and realise that there are too many good teams and when they have momentum they are very dangerous.”
