Former Moss Vale Dragons coach Trevor Schodel will not be without a coaching gig heading into the 2008 football season.

Schodel – who put his hand up for the position of full-time coach in favour of Lee Trasler – has signed on as assistant coach of the Cronulla Sharks premier league team, the Cronulla Cobras.

The rejection of the former captain-coach for the role of full-time head coach came as a shock to many Moss Vale supporters who saw their team turn around from cellar dwellers into grand final hopefuls within two seasons under Schodel.

But despite finding other opportunities within the greatest game of all, Schodel is still adamant that he’s not happy about the way Dragons officials handled his final days at the club.

“To get the shaft eight weeks out from the end of the season after turning the team into contenders was disappointing, “ Schodel told Southern Highland News.

Schodel was not sure if the same success he helped generate could continue under his successor because of the difference in experience.

“Nothing against Lee but I believe you need a full time coach if you want to go all the way.”

However there are no regrets about what Schodel did achieve in his time with the Dragons.
