CSU Bathurst once again fell at the final hurdle of the Tertiary Student Rugby League Nine’s tournament snatching defeat from the jaws of victory with a 14-10 loss to Sydney University.

It was a disappointing end to an otherwise positive afternoon of football for CSU who up until the main event had won all of their Pool A fixtures.

Despite one player preaching before kick-off that he was “sick of saying we’ve got a good team when we lose”, lady luck was not on the side of

Sydney University on the other hand had a luxurious start, earning themselves a repeat set off the back of a line-drop out from beginning of play and then scoring to take a 4-0 lead in the 4th minute.

The Mungoes responded swiftly though with a try to their right-winger in the left corner to level the scores at 4-all until the Sydney University halfback scored off the back of some nice cross-angle running.

Down 10-4 at half-time, the lads in the light blue jerseys told themselves to “f…… dig deep” and dig they did.

A poor start to the second half saw Sydney University give away a penalty from the kick-off, an intercept pass and then another penalty for flopping in the tackle.

It paid dividends for CSU who scored first after the break to once again level the scores at 10-all.

However on this day Sydney University remained in control of the game and applied swift retribution with a short pass setting up their third and final try to win the game that counts.
