Rugby league's hottest property, Sonny Bill Williams has dashed the hopes and dreams of rival clubs by re-signing with Canterbury for another five years.

But the cost of retaining the services of the Kiwi star will make it financially impossible for the Bulldogs to keep other big name players.

Unless those players decide to take a pay-cut or volunteer to play for free, it’s bye bye time at the end of 2007 for some quality personnel at Belmore.

The latest club rumored to be interested in Mark O’Meley is Manly though there is no official confirmation of that.

Williams will be looking to replay his club’s dogged determination to keep him on the books considering he has only played in 18 games of the course of the last two seasons.

“I came up with the decision to stay last night as I was talking with my old man,” Williams said.

“We didn’t have that much growing up and I’m sure that after five-years I’ll have something for my family and myself.”

Bulldogs coach Steve Folkes added: “Sonny is a great athlete, a great footballer and will only get better over the next few years.” - Read More, Here
